Concert in the park

I was at the park the other day with my friend and her kids. We sat at the park bench and watched as our children played. In the grassy area of the park were six young girls, ages 7-11 (or at least that's my best guess). They had formed a circle and were playing, 'Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star' on their various instruments. Two of the girls were playing the violin, one playing the triangle, one playing the xylophone, one singing, and the oldest was standing on an overturned box, conducting. It was quite the sight to see. I took a few pictures and when they had finished, I cheered and applauded very loudly. They all looked a little embarassed but excited to have an audience. A few minutes later, we were approached by all of them (carrying they're instruments). One brave girl asked, 'Do you happen to have like one cent to donate?'. Trying to stifle a giggle, I appologetically explained that I only had my stroller and some water with me. They were courteous as they walked away. A few more minutes went by and we were again approached by the whole lot. This time the oldest girl inquired if we knew of anyone having a birthday coming up. I asked if they performed at birthday parties. She said yes they did. I asked if they knew 'Happy Birthday' and she said, 'Well no, but we know something like it'. I still don't know what that means! What song is similar to 'Happy Birthday' but not a birthday song? I asked her how much is was to hire their services. She told me it was free. I explained that Cameron's birthday was actually coming up and I might be interested in having them play. I cannot even explain the look on their faces. Thinking about it still tugs at my heartstrings and I can't help crying. Pathetic? Probably. One of the girls said it would be their first birthday party, and as I took it, their first public performance. These girls are clearly passionate about their music. They were so excited at even the PROSPECT of being able to play for others. I miss my music. I miss jamming with Amy and Krista. Singing duets with Kyla. Teaching the kids at 'Sweet Harmony' fun songs like, 'Hit the Beach' with accomanying choreography with sunglasses and lots of California attitude. I miss singing in Zion. Watching people tear up as the music we sings strengthens their testimonies or helps them to first realize they have one. I miss working at Guitar Center and meeting other people who are passionate about their music. I couldn't believe at the amount of emotion these six little sweet girls brought with their simple song. I asked the oldest girl how I could contact them with details of the party. (I was pretty nervous to even ASK their phone number!) She gave me her mom's name and number and I think I will call. I'm sure Tyler isn't thrilled with the idea. But to give these girls a chance to play? That's all I've ever wanted.

Father's Day, etc...

So, somethings is wrong with my scanner. GRRRR!!! I wanted to scan one of Tyler's Father's Day presents. Cameron colored some pictures for Tyler and they turned out really cute! Oh well, I tried scanning them and they didn't turn out clear enough to post. Anyways, we had a fun Father's Day. I had made cinnamon rolls the day before with my friend Tammy. They turned out delicious! (ha, six hours later!) It was worth it to have a great Father's Day breakfast! I also made Tyler chocolate dipped strawberries that look like tuxedos! See how cute?!



Tyler's brother, David, and his boys came for dinner. We played 'washers'; a game Tyler's parents gave us. It's so fun! And Kyla joined us as well. For our last visit before she moves back to California. =( Anyways, here's a bunch of pictures. The ones of me and Kyla at the piano are at church. I play for primary and she came to church with us. This is how we used to play when we were in Young Womens. Ya know, about 8 years ago? Hehehe... We always had a blast playing together and it gave us that much more time to talk. And the other pictures of Kyla, Tyler and I doing funny faces is a game she taught us. You give a person a scenerio: such as, "you just got pooped on by a bird" and then you make the first expression that you think of. I'll caption those pictures.

Okay, so a few weeks ago we went to Tyler's cousin's graduation party. It was a medieval theme and we had to dress accordingly. Tyler was an executioner, I was a gypsy, and Cameron was a pirate. Alexis was just cute! Don't know what she was, but she looked adorable! Anyways, here's some pictures from that. Next time I won't wait so long to blog! Oh, and I can't pick my favorites, so there'll be quite a few of Cameron!

And if you noticed Cameron's shirt: yes, that is dirt! We had NO idea what to dress him in to be a pirate. A pirate would not wear a graphic tee, or a polo shirt. So we put him in a plain white shirt. But that just looked wrong! So Nisha suggested we rub stain all over Cameron's shirt. It was a great idea and I was all for it, except he would have stunk all night! So Tyler went along those lines and rolled his shirt in the mud! Hahaha... Anyways, it looks kinda funny, but not as funny as a preppy Jack Sparrow.

So, 2 out of 3 comments from my last post mysteriously disapeared! I checked my blog and read the comments, then just a few minutes ago I was going to do another post when I notcied it said I only have 1 comment. What the heck?! I don't want to have to join a stupid 'group' just to post my question. Anyone know how to get in touch with someone who knows what they're talking about? Or has this happened to any of you and do YOU know what the problem is? Let me know. Thanks!

Ahhhh... I love the sun!

I am so excited for this weather! (And yet as I type this, it is raining outside again!) Oh well. We were outside almost all day. It was gorgeous! We have gone for a bike ride (with Tyler! YAY!) the past 2 nights. I forgot how much I LOVE taking pictures outside. It makes it so much easier for me (not to try and pick the right setting and such) and they turn out so vivid! I love the green grass and the blue sky. IT'S ABOUT TIME!

Ugh.. Back again!

So we went to Monticello for Memorial day weekend, and I'm so bummed to be back home! We had a really great time! The weather was pretty crappy. It was a blizzard one of the days, and the rest it was either rainy, extremely windy, or both! Sunday was actually beautiful. We went to sacrament meeting and then went with Tyler's parents to the lake near their house. We took their new camp trailer (sooooo nice!) and had lunch there and went fishing. We bought all new fishing poles (our old ones were pretty trashed!) We bought Cameron a Lightning McQueen pole, and he loved it! He (in my unbias opinion) did pretty amazing for a almost 4 year old! The first day we fished (with snow on the ground might I add), we were there long enough to cast ONE time! Hahaha.. Lucky for us, that lake is very well stocked, and he caught a fish on his first and only cast of the day! It was just a great time all around. We played a game (one of our favorites) called Compatibilty with Mike and Julie and we laughed sooo hard. So yes, I'm sad to be back into 'the real world' now. Alexis cried so hard last night trying to go to sleep that she threw up. And I didn't know it until this morning. So I'm ALREADY behind on laundry, and dishes. UGH! And I left the house 100% spotless. ALL the laundry was done, floors clean, etc. Oh well. That's life, right? Well, life as a mom.

I was happy to have finished my book I've been trying to read for about a month now! "The Host" was a great book! It was pretty slow; I had a difficult time getting into it like the "Twilight" series. It wasn't until the last, oh, 30 pages where I could NOT put it down! Overall, I loved it. I laughed, I cried (or shoud I say bawled like a baby!). And can I just say: Edward and Jacob combined are NOTHING compared to IAN! I LOVE IAN! =) I'll post Monticello pictures another time. Gotta go clean some more. AHHHH!!!
